IPTV is basically an abbreviation for Internet-based Protocol Television which uses internet to deliver live TV programs and videos. Using broadband or internet connection, a subscriber is provided digital television through internet protocol. It differentiates itself slightly from digital videos in terms of it being accessed by quite a number of users on websites or applications like YouTube and Netflix.
Another prominent difference is that it does not use a standard cable or satellite connection. A single subscription can be used on multiple IPTVs within a home. IPTV like MAG324 provides viewers the advantage and opportunity of being able to pick any program of their choice, whenever and wherever they desire.
IPTV Vs Satellite/Standard Connection
Cable and Satellite connection allow viewers to tune into a program within the incoming signal and the basic difference between the two is that Standard cable connection is a wired connection, whereas Satellite connection is wireless. IPTV uses internet based protocol to deliver channels on the box provided. By offering the same content, through the same client-server model, internet networks differ from cable and satellite. When a consumer puts in a request for a particular show or video, the content is delivered to him/her through Internet protocol rather than cable or satellite. IPTV like MAG324 also allows you store the program to be watched later, whenever desired.
Centralized and Distributed IPTV
IPTV such as MAG324 is quite similar to browsing videos over the internet, the only difference is that it uses internet protocol as a delivery system to provide the content. When a consumer requests a certain video, the videos from different servers is made in to data packets and sent. Usually there are two types of IPTVs, depending upon the architecture of the network known as Centralized and Distributed IPTV.
Centralized IPTV
The centralized IPTV architecture is comparatively a simple solution. It does not need a content distribution system as all media can be stored on centralized servers. Centralized IPTV is basically ideal for a network that relatively provides small VOD service and has an efficient content delivery network.
Distributed IPTV
Distributed IPTV is basically for large network of server. It however provides you the bandwidth usage advantage and a management system that is inherent and essential for large network server. Therefore, operators who intend to put out a large system should opt for Distributed IPTV architecture from the start.
Future of IPTV
IPTV is witnessing a rising number of subscribers as it has grossed the 130 million mark. Countries like Europe and Asia are leading in the list of most number of subscribers. IPTV networks are available in countries like France, Canada, Russia, and Great Britain etc. Even though, the growth of IPTV is impressive, a shift towards other services such as OTT and SVOD can be seen from the customers based on their usage and viewing habits. It is estimated according to a report that IPTV is expected to grow at a growth rate of about 18% making USD 93.6 billion by 2021 to USD 34.67 billion in 2015, between 2016 and 2021.
