Subject: John Bible Study: Does the Bible Really Teach That Jesus Is
Quote
I have seen two versions of this verse because each of them bring out a meaning. When Jesus said this to His disciples it was meant for us today. Just because we live 2000 years after these words were spoken, it doesn't mean the commands of Jesus are null and void today. In fact, Jesus said four times between the last supper and the crucifixion that if someone was to prove their love for Him, they should do it through obeying His commands. He went on to say if a person doesn't love Him, he won't obey His commands. I have not shared this teaching with many people who could look at the fifty teachings of Jesus/his commands and agree that we should follow them to the letter today. Many people say that you can't take Jesus literally when he said these commands and they'll say you are stupid to suggest that Jesus really meant to cut out your eyes if they are causing you to sin. Yet the sad fact of the matter is that there will be a few people who end up in hell because of addictions to pornography and spiritual adultery and wished they had cut out their very eyes. This scripture means quite literally that if you obey Jesus and His teachings then He will let Himself be known more fully by you. He will show you more and more of His character and how He feels about things. And if taken to the extreme it means also that you can see Him before you go to heaven. Compare our tradition to those subscribing to other religions. They often see Jesus from a much different religious and historical perspective. There are even those who argue that Jesus never even existed at all - that he is a fiction akin to Hercules (supposed born of a god and a woman, too). Parallels to the rise of Jesus can be found in other cultures in other times but today Christianity is the world's most dominant religion while Balder (a Norse god with Christ-like characteristics) is largely forgotten. The purpose of this course is to examine how Jesus is perceived by other religious traditions. Through that study and perspective it should help us look at our own concept of him more closely and learn though the differences in perception. I propose (that for the purpose of this course, at least) there is no right or wrong way of perceiving Jesus. For instance to use a modern analogy, if a dozen movies all portray Jesus differently, we can gain a greater appreciation of his being by contrasting and comparing "Gospel," "The Passion of Christ," The Greatest Story Ever Told," or even "The Life of Brian." We may be more comfortable with some images than others - but in the case of the world's great religions there is something to be learned from the diversity of experience. The Law of Attraction is not a newly revealed secret, it was taught by a very humble man of God more than 2000 years ago. "Jesus Taught It, Too: The Early Roots of the Law of Attraction," by Philip Harris presents a compelling argument that the Law of Attraction is not a modern paradigm shift. Harris portrays the teachings of Jesus and his followers as a mindset that requires knowing one's inner meaning that comes from the heart. Jesus, referenced in multiple scriptural references, espoused the firm belief that faith is based on knowing...not hoping. Harris' in-depth research of Biblical scripture and history offers unique perspectives and well-founded premises to support his discussion of Jesus' simple message. According to Harris, Jesus taught that we live in a unified universe, free of judgment, in which we are seeking our individual spirituality. One thing to take note about Jesus' life. At the beginning of Jesus ministry up to his crucifixion, his purpose was to fulfill all the things prophesied about him and bearing the truth to the things to which God had sworn. This truth was the truth that would 'set men free' if they showed themselves to be "on the side of the truth" by accepting Jesus' role in God's purpose. (John 8:32-36; 18:37) Jesus Christ himself is full of grace and truth. While Jesus lived his life on earth he always spoke the truth as he received it from his Father. He committed no sin, nor was deception found in his mouth. Jesus represented things as they really were. Besides being full of truth, Jesus was himself the truth, and truth came through him. He declared: "I am the way and the truth and the life." Jesus life was based on the truth and all his teachings were truth, for he was the master teacher of all God's ways. Jesus knew God as no other man did and this enabled him to provide authoritative teaching concerning his Father. The so called statement by Jesus Christ that one can reach god only through him is a misnomer. No enlightened Soul can utter such words. It is a complete disregard of the teachings of Christ. It is upon the masses in general to assess whom to trust in the present materialistic trend existing in the society. A blind faith in the Vatican teachings can totally misguide the humanity towards a catastrophic end. Even though the interpretation of the teachings of Jesus Christ by the Vatican carry absolute weight age for most Catholics around the world but it need not be the absolute truth as was administered and monitored by Jesus Christ himself. The Vatican interpretations can be based on absolutely wrong footing.I have seen two versions of this verse because each of them bring out a meaning.
